SJVN to Develop 50 MW Solar Project in Sonitpur District, Assam
The project, developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of SJVN, is slated for construction in Sitalmari village, Barsola Block, under the Dhekiajuli Revenue Sector in Sonitpur district.

Assam's Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma spearheaded the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for a 50 MW Solar Project in Sonitpur, Assam.
The project, developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of SJVN, is slated for construction in Sitalmari village, Barsola Block, under the Dhekiajuli Revenue Sector in Sonitpur district. With an estimated investment of INR 291 crores, the project aims to generate 101 million units of green energy in its inaugural year, contributing to a cumulative energy production of about 2,319 million units over 25 years. The electricity generated will be supplied to Assam Power Development Corporation Limited at a rate of INR 3.92/unit.
The Bhumi Pujan ceremony witnessed the presence of various dignitaries including Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of Assam, Ashok Singhal; MP, Tezpur, Pallab Lochan Das; MLA, Barchalla, Ganesh Kumar Limbu; Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, Ajay Tewari; Director (Finance), SJVN, Akhileshwar Singh; CEO, SGEL, Ajay Singh; and MD, APDCL, Rakesh Kumar.
Geeta Kapur, Chairperson and Managing Director of SJVN, highlighted the company's commitment to Assam's renewable energy landscape. She mentioned that SGEL is developing three solar projects in the state, totaling 320 MW, with the foundation stone for the 70 MW Solar Project in Dhubri, Assam, laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna-Category-I and Schedule-'A' Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has been instrumental in the energy sector since its inception on May 24, 1988. With thirteen commissioned projects amounting to 2377 MW of installed capacity and 123 km of Transmission Lines, SJVN has diversified its portfolio to include hydro, thermal, wind, solar, power trading, and transmission.
SJVN aims to achieve targets of 25,000 MW installed capacity by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040, aligning with the Government of India's commitment to have 50 percent of its power capacity from non-fossil-fuel-based energy sources by 2030.
