SJVN has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy (SGEL) has achieved a significant milestone with successful completion of trial run of 241.77 MW capacity in Phase-I of 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project on March 31, 2025.
The said capacity is currently under operation and is all set to achieve COD on April 02, 2025, the company stated in a regulatory filing.
It further added that the total planned capacity of 1,000 MW is slated for full commissioning by September 30, 2025. “Upon completion, SGEL will supply the generated solar power to three states namely Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand,” it said.
According to the company, the 1,000 MW Bikaner solar power project is poised to make a substantial contribution to India's target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. It also aligns with the company's shared vision of becoming a 25,000 MW company by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040.
Last month, SJVN signed an MoU with the Chhattisgarh government and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company to develop the 1800 MW Kotpali Pumped Storage Project in Chhattisgarh with an estimated investment of INR 9,500 crore.
The company is diversifying its portfolio going beyond its hydroelectric projects by foraying into solar, wind and PSP projects. In an investors’ call discussing the performance of the company in Q3 FY25, the company informed that 12 of its solar projects are under pipeline besides other energy projects.
“To give you a brief overview of our projects, as of now, 12 projects with a combined capacity of 2,466.5 MW and 2 transmission lines are operational. We are constructing 4 hydro projects totalling 1,558 MW, 1 thermal project of 1,320 MW and 12 solar projects with a total capacity of 2,058 MW. So under construction, portfolio of the company is 4,936 MW,” it said.
Further, it is pertinent to mention here that SJVN has also been listed as one of the Renewable Energy Implementing Agency (REIA) by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to help meet the 500 gigawatt mission by 2030.
“In FY 24-25, we have floated tenders for 7.5 GW against a target of 10.8 GW. And overall, SJVN has achieved an awarded capacity of 2.4 GW during this financial year,” the company stated during the investors’ call.
