Lighting specialist Signify has acquired UK-based wireless monitoring and control systems expert for smart cities - Telensa Holdings. However, the company didn’t disclose the acquisition amount.

Through this acquisition, the Netherlands-headquartered Signify adds a narrow-band and TALQ-compliant solution to its feature-rich, open and secured systems.

The company said that, “the move will enable it to service a broader group of customers, by making smart city infrastructure affordable to cities utilizing the unlicensed radio space.”

However, Telensa will continue to sell its systems under its own brand name.

The acquisition supports Signify’s strategic priority to grow in professional systems and services.

Jointly, the two organisations will be able to service many towns and cities globally which wanted to reap the benefits of connected lighting in a cost-efficient way, and bring them into a smart city central management system, the company added.

Commenting on the acquisition, Harsh Chitale, Division Leader Digital Solutions at Signify, said “we are very excited to welcome Telensa as part of Signify. With its talented team and proven track record, we are adding a well-established technology and competitive offering to fuel the uptake of solutions for smart cities around the world.”

Cambridge- headquartered Telensa, founded in 2005, has an employee head count of 58. It’s preliminary sales amounted to approx GBP 11 million for the year ending March 2021.

As of now, Telensa sold approx 100 networks connecting more than 2 million light points in over 400 cities worldwide. The company’s recent projects spreads across the US, Brazil, Hong Kong, UAE, Australia and New Zealand.
