Siemens Infrastructure & Cities Sector to build, modernize substations

Siemens Ltd. has won a contract worth Rs. 86.6 crores from Bangladesh Power Development Board, Dhaka, to construct six new 33/11kV substations and upgrade 14 similar substations. The project is to be delivered on a turnkey basis.

This is the single largest turnkey order received by the Infrastructure & Cities Sector of Siemens Ltd. for gas-insulated switchgear panels.

Dr. Armin Bruck, Managing Director, Siemens Ltd. said, “Bangladesh, like other emerging economies of the world, faces the challenges of high power system losses, low efficiencies and erratic power supply. The substations built on Siemens’ gas-insulated switchgears improve power efficiencies and generation capacities, while consuming lower real estate. This is ideal for growing cities like Dhaka.”

The project is funded by Japan Bank for International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The new and upgraded substations are located Sylhet, Mymensingh, Jamalpur and Tangail, in the eastern and central parts of Bangladesh.
