Madhya Pradesh-based solar pump manufacturers Shakti Pumps (India) Ltd. has announced its foray into solar cell and PV module manufacturing.

Shakti Energy Solutions, the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, has been sanctioned 113 acres of land for this purpose by Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (MPIDC), the company shared in a regulatory filing.

“This land is located at Smart Industrial Township, Sector – 7, Pithampur, Dist. Dhar (M.P.). This land will be utilised for setting up a solar cell and PV module manufacturing facility, using wafers as input material,” it said.

Notably, the company is a key player in solar pumps segment and increasingly, there is an increasing demand for DCR-compliant modules as the projects under PM-KUSUM scheme mandates it. And, in a recent investor call, the company cited the issue of shortage in DCR solar panels limiting its growth.

During an investor call, the company’s Chairman Dinesh Patidar expressed confidence in achieving 20-25 percent growth in the current market conditions but highlighted the shortage of DCR cell-based modules as a limiting factor.

To address this the company, in February 2025, tied up with ReNew Photovoltaic for an additional supply of DCR cell-based solar modules worth INR 1,300 crore for FY 2025-26. This is in addition to existing partnership with Mundra Solar (Adani) and Premier Energies for the supply of DCR cell-based Solar modules.

Now, with this backward integration the company is striving for greater control over the supply chain and solidify its position in the solar pumps market.
