Shakti Pumps has clinched a monumental INR 149.71 crore order as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) initiative. This landmark order represents the first successful venture into component C of the government scheme.

Under this pioneering project, Shakti Pumps will replace conventional electric pump sets with energy-efficient BLDC (brushless DC) solar pump sets. These innovative systems will harness solar power, allowing surplus electricity to be sent back to the grid.

This transformation promises to revolutionize agriculture in India by bolstering irrigation capabilities, reducing dependence on traditional energy sources, and providing the opportunity for farmers to earn from surplus power sales to distribution companies (discoms).

Dinesh Patidar, Chairman of Shakti Pumps, remarked, "This revolutionary action changes 'Annadata' (food providers) into 'Urja data' (energy providers). Discoms would recover the pump set cost within 5 years, and farmers can earn substantial income by selling excess power to discoms. The scheme not only empowers farmers but also enhances irrigation and energy security across India."

Launched in 2019, the PM-KUSUM scheme aims to add 30,800 MW of solar capacity by 2022 with significant central financial support. The recent extension of the scheme until March 2026 demonstrates the government's commitment to promoting sustainable energy solutions, even in the face of pandemic challenges.

With three distinct components, PM-KUSUM is set to transform the Indian agricultural landscape, making it more energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable.
