The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has revoked its debarment notice issued against Reliance Power, allowing the Anil Ambani-led firm to participate in future tenders.
On November 6, 2024, SECI barred Reliance Power and its subsidiaries from participating in SECI's future tenders for 3 years. It cited the submission of an allegedly fake document by Reliance NU BESS Ltd., a subsidiary of Reliance Power, in a tender released by SECI in June 2024 for setting up 1000 MW/2000 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. SECI also cancelled the tender process.
Further, SECI sent a show cause notice to Reliance Power on November 13, seeking an explanation for submitting a fake bank guarantee and questioning why criminal proceedings should not be initiated.
On December 3, 2024, SECI issued a notice withdrawing the debarment. It, however, clarified that the withdrawal of the debarment notice is "without prejudice" to its right to pursue legal action as per the law.
“Following the legal proceedings related to this matter, it is hereby notified that the debarment notice issued to Reliance Power Ltd. has been withdrawn, with immediate effect. This withdrawal is without SECI’s right to take all actions in accordance with the law,” stated SECI further adding that the original notice stands modified to this extent.
Reliance Power, in an exchange filing, confirmed that with SECI’s decision, the company and its subsidiaries – except Reliance NU BESS Ltd., are now eligible to participate in SECI's tenders.
