SECI Awards 600 MW Hybrid Power Project to Juniper Green, ACME, and Sembcorp

In SECI's 600 MW wind-solar hybrid auction (Tranche IX), Juniper Green Energy, ACME Solar, and Sembcorp secured projects with tariffs of INR 3.25-3.26/kWh. The auction, expanded from 400 MW to 600 MW, includes a minimum 30 percent capacity utilisation factor for hybrid projects.

In the latest SECI 600 MW wind-solar hybrid auction (Tranche IX) Juniper Green Energy, ACME Solar, and Sembcorp have emerged as winners.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India's (SECI) wind-solar hybrid auction (Tranche IX) was initially launched in June 2024 with a capacity of 400 MW. However, due to strong demand, the capacity was expanded to 600 MW. The hybrid projects awarded in this auction must include both solar and wind components, with at least 33 percent of the contracted capacity coming from each energy source.

In this competitive auction, ACME Solar and Juniper Green Energy won 300 MW and 150 MW, respectively, both at a tariff of INR 3.25/kWh, while Sembcorp secured 150 MW at INR 3.26/kWh through the bucket-filling method.

The projects come with a requirement to maintain a minimum Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF) of 30 percent. Over the 25-year term of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the energy supply must be sustained within 90 pecent to 120 percent of the declared CUF value. Moreover, only wind turbine models listed on the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) are allowed for deployment.

Previously, in SECI’s Tranche VIII auction, major players like Juniper Green Energy, Avaada Energy, JSW Energy, and others were awarded 1,200 MW of ISTS-connected wind-solar hybrid projects, further solidifying their presence in the renewable sector.
