The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has launched the Chinese Elite Solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the TEDA Egypt industrial development zone, located within the integrated Ain Sokhna Zone under SCZONE.

Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairperson of SCZONE, attended the  ceremony for the new facility, which marks a significant step in Egyptian-Chinese industrial collaboration.

With an investment of USD150 million, the plant will specialise in producing N-type solar cells and manufacturing photovoltaic systems, including wafers, cells, and modules. Spread across 78,000 square meters, the facility will boast a production capacity of 2 GW and create 600 direct jobs. The first phase of production is expected to begin by September 2025.

Speaking at the event, Gamal El-Din emphasized SCZONE’s role in fostering strategic partnerships with China to bolster local industrial development and support the Egyptian economy. He highlighted that SCZONE’s advantageous location, featuring four industrial zones and six ports on the Mediterranean and Red Seas, offers access to over two billion consumers through trade agreements.

The Elite Solar plant is set to enhance Egypt’s photovoltaic energy supply chain and complement the green fuel sector, a critical part of SCZONE’s strategy to localize and expand Egypt’s renewable energy capabilities.

Gamal El-Din noted that this initiative aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which targets generating 42 percent of the country’s energy from renewable sources by the end of the decade. The project’s usufruct agreement was signed during SCZONE’s promotional visit to China in September, under the patronage of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

Founded in 2005, Elite Solar PV is a leading Chinese company in the photovoltaic sector, with a global production capacity exceeding 10 GW. The company manufactures solar energy systems and operates solar farms, serving clients worldwide, including major technology firms in the United States. It also holds trademarks in several countries, including the UK, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia.
