Saudi Arabia aims to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup with a groundbreaking stadium plan, showcasing a commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development. The proposed NEOM Stadium, to be situated 1,150 feet above ground, is part of the NEOM project, a USD 1.5 trillion initiative located in the innovative city of THE LINE. NEOM project is a monumental USD 1.5 trillion initiative located in the northwestern part of Saudi Arabia, near the borders of Jordan and Egypt.
It should be noted that THE LINE is designed as a futuristic linear city that will extend 105 miles in length, reach 1,640 feet in height, and span 656 feet in width. A central feature of this development is its commitment to renewable energy. The city will integrate electric vehicles, advanced public transportation, and infrastructure powered entirely by renewable sources.
This includes substantial investments in solar and wind energy, which will drive the city’s operations and services. The NEOM Stadium, a centerpiece of this sustainable vision, will run entirely on renewable energy, primarily harnessed from solar and wind power. This aligns with Saudi Arabia's goal to decrease reliance on fossil fuels and advance its green energy initiatives. With a capacity of over 45,000 seats, the stadium will be situated atop THE LINE, providing both an architectural landmark and a demonstration of cutting-edge renewable energy technology.
Construction of the stadium is planned to begin in 2027 and be completed by 2032, in line with the broader NEOM development schedule. Work on THE LINE began in October 2021, and the first phase of the project is projected to be completed by 2030. While the initial target was to house 1.5 million residents by 2030, recent estimates now suggest a population of around 300,000 by that time, reflecting ongoing adjustments in project planning.
Overall, the NEOM project and THE LINE exemplify Saudi Arabia’s commitment to creating a sustainable, energy-efficient urban environment, setting a new standard for future developments powered by renewable energy.
