Saudi Arabia has granted ACWA Power exclusive rights to export green hydrogen and its derivatives produced in the Kingdom to international markets, marking a significant step in the country's strategy to become a global clean energy exporter.
The approval also authorises ACWA Power to develop projects for the production, transmission and export of renewable electricity to European and Arab markets, expanding the company's role in Saudi Arabia's energy transition and clean energy infrastructure.
Commenting on the development, ACWA Power Chief Executive Officer Samir J. Serhan said that the government approval reflects the Kingdom's confidence in the company's ability to deliver large scale strategic infrastructure projects. He added that exports of green hydrogen and renewable electricity represent the next phase of Saudi Arabia's energy leadership, creating new opportunities for economic growth while supporting global energy security and the clean energy transition.
The mandate builds on ACWA Power's growing portfolio in renewable energy, water desalination and green hydrogen. The company is a key partner in the NEOM Green Hydrogen project, a joint venture with NEOM and Air Products. As of late March 2026, the project was around 90 percent complete and is designed to include up to 4 GW of combined solar and wind power generation along with 2.2 GW of electrolyser capacity for large scale green hydrogen production.
