Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, announced the kingdom’s position as the world’s largest producer of green and clean hydrogen and its readiness to begin exports.

He was speaking at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) 2024 in Riyadh. Prince Abdulaziz highlighted Saudi Arabia's strides in renewable energy, stating that since 2020, the country has generated 44 GW of renewable energy—equivalent to 90 percent of Sweden’s and nearly half of Britain’s installed electricity capacity.

Under the theme 'Infinite Horizons: Investing Today, Shaping Tomorrow,' the three-day FII summit, hosted under King Salman's patronage, focuses on how investment can drive sustainable growth. The minister emphasised Saudi Arabia’s ambitious push for energy export, circular carbon economy integration, and development of engineered products to boost economic diversification, supply chain resilience, and job creation.

With a goal of providing 20 GW of renewable energy annually, Saudi Arabia is working to secure suitable sites across the country for renewable generation. The kingdom is also expanding its network of gas pipelines to fuel industrial cities, ensuring dual power sources for each region.

“We continue to set record low prices in renewable energy generation,” Prince Abdulaziz noted, adding, “we are fully prepared to export green hydrogen globally while ensuring sufficient local availability.”
