Sasan Power Repays USD 150 Million Debt, Strengthening Reliance Power’s Financial Stability

Sasan Power Ltd., a subsidiary of Reliance Power Ltd., has successfully repaid USD 150 million to IIFCL, UK, fulfilling its debt obligation on December 31, 2024.

As per the firm's statement, this debt repayment will strengthen the company’s debt coverage metrics, improve liquidity, and enhance its credit rating.

"For seven consecutive years, Sasan Power has been ranked as India’s best-performing power plant. The loan repayment further strengthens Reliance Power’s balance sheet as the company shifts its focus towards renewable energy, which is poised to drive future growth," said the firm.

It further said in its statement that Sasan Power operates the world’s largest integrated coal-based power plant, a 3,960 MW Ultra Mega Power Plant (UMPP) in Sasan, Madhya Pradesh, with a captive coal mining capacity of 20 MTPA. The plant supplies electricity to 14 DISCOMs across seven states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and New Delhi, at the lowest tariff in India of INR 1.54 per unit, benefiting more than 400 million people.

Reliance Power, now a zero-debt company, recently raised INR 1,525 crore through equity-linked warrants via a preferential issue, positioning the company to capitalise on growth opportunities in the renewable energy market. With a current net worth of INR 14,393 crore, the capital infusion will elevate Reliance Power’s net worth to over INR 15,000 crore.
