Steel Authority of India Limited's (SAIL) Chhattisgarh-based arm, Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) is gearing up to install the state's inaugural 15 MW floating solar project within the Maroda-1 reservoir, a step aimed at enhancing environmental stewardship and bolstering renewable energy initiatives.
The forthcoming floating solar plant, slated for installation in Chhattisgarh's Durg district, marks a collaborative effort between National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and SAIL through their joint venture, NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited (NSPCL).
Once operational, the floating solar project is projected to generate an estimated annual output of 34.26 million units of green power, primarily earmarked for consumption by BSP as captive power. This initiative is expected to curtail approximately 28,330 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
With the tender process concluded, the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Contract (EPC) for the project will be awarded soon, paving the way for completion by the next year.
The project aligns with SAIL's broader strategy to integrate renewable energy sources into its operations, a key step towards achieving sustainable and eco-friendly steel production.
Plans are underway for an additional 35 MW solar power plant, also spearheaded through NSPCL, with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) already in place and the tender process set to commence soon.
