Residential Rooftop Solar Installation Under PM Surya Ghar Crosses 6 Lakh
Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik shared that residential rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana have reached 616,019. Gujarat leads with 281,769 installations (45.74 percent), followed by Maharashtra at 120,696 (19.59 percent), while Uttar Pradesh and Kerala each record around 51,300 (8.32 percent).

Residential rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana have reached 616,019 as of November 21, 2024, according to data shared by Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
Launched on February 29, 2024, with a total outlay of INR 75,021 crore, the initiative aims to equip one crore households with rooftop solar systems by the end of the FY’27.
“To ensure equitable access to rooftop solar systems under the scheme, the program is being implemented through the National Portal (www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in) where all residential consumers in any part of the country willing to install rooftop solar (RTS) plant can register, apply, select vendors, mutually decide rate of installation and after due approvals and inspection of system by respective electricity distribution utility will be eligible to get subsidy directly into the bank account of the consumer,” noted the reply.
As per the data shared in the annexure, Gujarat leads the adoption with 281,769 installations, representing 45.74 percent of the total. Maharashtra follows with 120,696 installations (19.59 percent), while Uttar Pradesh and Kerala each record around 51,300 installations (8.32 percent).
States like Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh form the middle tier, with installation figures between 17,000 and 19,300. Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Telangana contribute to the lower tier, with 7,000 to 14,000 installations each. The remaining states together account for 25,641 installations.
To boost participation, the Ministry is creating awareness about the scheme through various channels for promotion, including public campaigns, such as social media, print media, television, Radio jingles, nukkad natak and door-to-door campaigns, etc.
