In a strategic move to bolster Rajasthan’s energy sector, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Telangana's Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. (SCCL) for the development of large-scale thermal and renewable energy projects.

The agreement, which marks a significant step towards self-reliance in power generation, was formalised at a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Jaipur.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, speaking at the event, emphasised Rajasthan’s growing role as a powerhouse in India’s energy landscape. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for guiding the state towards becoming a leading contributor to the country’s power supply. Sharma reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring a reliable electricity supply, particularly for the agricultural sector, with a target to provide daytime power to farmers by 2027.

Under the MoU, a 1,600 MW thermal power project will be established in Telangana, with both Rajasthan and Telangana securing 800 MW each from the plant. Additionally, Rajasthan will set up a 1,500 MW solar park, further strengthening its position as a leader in renewable energy. The solar initiative is expected to attract an investment of INR 6,000 crore, generating employment opportunities and contributing to regional economic development.

The combined investment for these projects is estimated at INR 22,000 crore, reinforcing Rajasthan’s commitment to expanding its energy infrastructure and meeting its long-term power requirements.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state’s ambitious energy targets under the Clean Energy Policy-2024, which aims to generate 125 GW of solar power by 2030. Rajasthan is also progressing toward surpassing 54,000 MW of total power capacity, including both conventional and renewable sources, by the fiscal year 2031-32.

At the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, Rajasthan secured investment commitments worth INR 2.28 lakh crore, reflecting the state’s growing appeal for energy investments. This included a notable INR 10,000 crore MoU between Power Grid Corporation of India and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (RVUNL).

The MoU signing was attended by Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who lauded Rajasthan’s advancements in solar energy. He highlighted that the agreement would serve as a game-changer in improving thermal power efficiency while significantly boosting renewable energy production.

Rajasthan’s Minister of State for Energy, Hiralal Nagar, assured that the state’s Energy Department would work in close coordination with Telangana to ensure the swift execution of these projects.

The event featured a comprehensive presentation by Additional Chief Secretary (Energy), Alok, outlining the MoU’s expected impact. Key officials present included Principal Secretary (Energy) Sandeep Kumar Sultania, RVUNL CMD Devendra Shringi, and SCCL CMD N. Balaram.

The latest agreements signal a transformative phase for Rajasthan’s power sector, paving the way for accelerated development and greater energy self-sufficiency.
