Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. (JVVNL) has received approval from the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) for the levelised tariff of 208.91 MW solar power projects, designed to support agricultural operations across the State.

The solar projects, coming under Compnonent-C of the PM KUSUM Scheme, are aimed at aiding farmers and boosting the use of renewable energy. It focusses on installing solar plants to power agricultural pumps, reducing farmers' reliance on conventional energy sources and lowering their electricity costs.

JVVNL presented its case, emphasising that the solar projects are part of a broader effort to support rural areas by promoting solar energy for agricultural use. The tariffs were determined through a competitive bidding process, overseen by the RERC, ensuring transparency and fairness in the pricing.

The projects will be developed using a model that includes capital expenditure and operational support from service companies, with significant financial backing from the government. This support will cover a substantial portion of the project costs, making solar energy more accessible and affordable for farmers.

JVVNL has also implemented various guidelines for the project's development, including the installation of solar-powered agricultural pumps and the solarisation of existing grid-connected pumps. To streamline project development, an online platform has been launched, enabling landowners and developers to coordinate the leasing of land for solar installations.

The capacity of each project was determined based on the energy needs of individual agricultural pumps. Government financial assistance was tailored to ensure even larger pumps received adequate support. The comprehensive plan for the solar plants includes measures for grid connectivity and long-term maintenance.

Following a successful bidding process, JVVNL received numerous proposals from developers, evaluated on their technical and financial capabilities. The Commission's approval of the levelised tariff allows JVVNL to move forward with the projects, which are expected to provide reliable and cost-effective solar energy to thousands of farmers while advancing the State's renewable energy objectives.
