The state government will announce a green hydrogen policy to build Punjab a state of non-conventional energy generation throughout the nation.

It is stated about 3,200 MW capacity renewable energy projects, comprising 2,000 MW capacity of solar plants, have been established, which is around 21 percent of the overall installed capacity in Punjab.

This contribution of renewable energy will be increased up to 30 percent by 2030.

Punjab has massive potential in renewable energy as more than 20 million tonnes of paddy straw is generated annually and only 7-8 million tonnes is being maintained through the methods of ex-situ (using stubble as fuel) and in-situ (mixing crop residue in fields).

There are about 43 compressed biogas (CBG) projects composed of paddy straw and agriculture residue that have already been allocated and Asia's largest CBG plant with an overall capacity of more than 33 tonnes per day has been authorized in Sangrur district.

Upon fulfillment, these projects generate 515.58 TDP CBG, apart from consuming two million tonnes of paddy straw on average per year.
