President Murmu Advocates Energy Conservation Efforts

She called for a collective effort to promote energy efficiency, innovation, and the widespread use of energy-saving measures.

On the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, President Droupadi Murmu addressed a gathering at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, emphasizing the critical importance of energy conservation. 

The President took the opportunity to honor the achievers at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2023, the National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards 2023, and the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2023.

In her address to the diverse audience, which included representatives from the government, industry, civil society, and school children, she highlighted the interconnectedness of human well-being with the conservation and good health of nature.

Advocating optimal utilization of available resources, the President stressed that energy and other needs can be fulfilled without unnecessary pressure on nature and Mother Earth. She called for a collective effort to promote energy efficiency, innovation, and the widespread use of energy-saving measures. 

Murmu asserted that energy saving is synonymous with energy production and urged everyone to actively participate in spreading this crucial message.

Looking towards the future, President Murmu emphasized the continuous global commitment to enhancing energy efficiency and increasing the utilization of renewable energy in the 21st century. She advocated for the expansion of energy production from wind, solar, and small and micro hydro projects, coupled with efforts to produce more energy from fewer resources.

The President introduced the concept of a triple bottom line in sustainability efforts, asserting that businesses should not only yield economic benefits but also environmental and social advantages. 

Acknowledging India's responsible role in clean energy, she highlighted the country's commitment to reducing dependence on fossil fuels while promoting clean coal technologies to enhance efficiency and environmental friendliness.

Addressing recent initiatives like the 'Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022,' and Renewable Purchase Obligations, the President underlined their crucial role in achieving India's Nationally Determined Contributions by 2030.
