POWERGRID Approves INR 429.16 Crore Investments in 2 Wind Power Transmission Projects in Gujarat

Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has approved investments of INR 429.16 crore for two transmission projects, including a 400kV switchyard for offshore wind integration in Gujarat and an additional system for redundant power supply to Dholera.

Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has announced that the 'Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects' of POWERGRID has approved investments of about INR 429.16 crore in two projects.

The first project is a small component of the larger ‘Transmission System for Offshore Wind Zone Phase-I (500 MW VGF off the Coast of Gujarat for Subzone B3)’, which PGCIL is executing under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) mode. The second project is set to be commissioned within the same timeframe as the first.

“The first project involves the creation of a 400kV switchyard along with the installation of two 1500 MVA, 765/400kV ICTs at Vataman (AIS) with two 125MVAr (420kV) Bus Reactors associated with Transmission System for Offshore Wind Zone Phase-1 (500 MW VGF off the Coast of Gujarat for Subzone B3),” said the company in a regulatory filing.

The estimated cost of the project is INR 319.42 crore. It is scheduled to be commissioned by February 19, 2026.

The second project is for an additional Transmission System proposed for redundant power supply to the Dholera area. The estimated cost of the project is INR 109.74 crore and is scheduled to be commissioned by March 1, 2026.

The broader RTM project is estimated at INR 6,900 crore and is slated for completion by March 31, 2029. It includes the development of both offshore and onshore evacuation infrastructure to support 500 MW of offshore wind farms in Gujarat.
