Power Minister Unveils Curtain Raiser for Sixth Session of the International Solar Alliance

The sixth assembly of the International Solar Alliance along with side events will be held from October 30 to November 2, 2023 at the Ashok Hotel, New Delhi.

Power Minister RK Singh unveiled the curtain raiser for the Sixth Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The programme was presided over by the Minister along with MNRE Secretary Bhupinder Singh Bhalla and ISA Director General Dr. Ajay Mathur.

The sixth assembly of the International Solar Alliance along with side events will be held from October 30 to November 2, 2023 at the Ashok Hotel, New Delhi to assesses the aggregate effect of the programme in terms of deployment of solar energy, reliability, performance, cost and scale of finance.

Emphasising solar as an important renewable energy source, RK Singh said that solar has an edge over other sources as it is dependable, reliable and available for more months in a year. He informed that 116 countries have signed the Framework Agreement of ISA, of which, 94 countries have ratified it.

The Minister added that ISA helps the countries with expertise, carrying out projects such as solarisation of health centres, schools and cold-storage for agriculture. The most important contribution of ISA is to make sure that the investment goes to the countries, he concluded.

In his opening remarks Bhupinder Singh Bhalla talked about the   potential applications of solar energy. He further added that ISA is providing financial assistance of upto USD 50,000 to support the setting up of demonstrative projects and showcasing the remarkable potential of solar technology applications towards enriching the lives of individuals across ISA member nations.

Dr. Ajay Mathur informed that ISA is supporting 9.5 GW projects across the world and added that solar witnessed an investment of USD 310 billion last year. This year, the investment is expected to be USD 380 billion.

ISA is an action-oriented, member-driven, collaborative platform for increased deployment of solar energy technologies as a means for bringing energy access, ensuring energy security and driving energy transition.

With an aim to translate dialogue into action, ISA would be organizing a high-level conference on new technologies for clean energy transition collaboration with the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy and the Asian Development Bank.

The conference would be attended by the ministerial delegations of the ISA member countries, policymakers, experts and industry leaders.

The sixth Assembly is expected to lead to a greater consensus among countries for the promotion of solar energy.
