The Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh, credited the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for India's remarkable achievements in climate action.

During the launch of BEE's Annual Report (2022-23) on the Impact of Energy Efficiency Measures during the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day 2023,  he highlighted the pivotal role played by BEE's world-leading programs, including Perform Achieve Trade and STAR Labelling Programme.

Singh commended the dedicated efforts of industry and stakeholders in advancing the energy conservation movement in the country. He emphasized that BEE's initiatives have significantly contributed to the substantial reduction in carbon emissions, helping India surpass its climate action targets.

Singh pointed out that India's population constitutes around 17 percent of the world population, yet its contribution to the legacy carbon dioxide load is just 4 percent. India's per capita greenhouse emissions stand at one-third of the global average.

Singh proudly stated, "We had said at COP21 in Paris that 40 percent of our power capacity would be from non-fossil-fuel sources by the year 2030; we achieved this target in 2021. We had pledged to reduce our emissions intensity by 33 percent by 2030, and we achieved this in 2019. A major credit for this should go to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency." He added that India aims to have 65 percent of its total power capacity from non-fossil fuels by 2030, making it the only major economy aligning with a sub-2-degrees rise in global temperature.

Union Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries, Krishan Pal, echoed the importance of energy conservation for the nation. He highlighted various government initiatives, including the STAR Labelling Programme, Energy Conservation Building Code, and Perform Achieve Trade Scheme, aimed at promoting energy efficiency across different sectors.

Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Pankaj Agarwal, emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard the planet for future generations. He acknowledged India's leadership in fostering sustainable initiatives at international events and outlined the country's roadmap for doubling the global rate of energy efficiency by 2030.
