The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) took a significant step towards achieving 100 percent coverage of the country's area for the development of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network by hosting its inaugural Road Show for the 12th CGD Bidding Round.
The event, held at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi, was inaugurated by Pankaj Jain, Secretary MoPNG, and Dr. Anil Kumar Jain, Chairperson PNGRB, along with Board members and key stakeholders from the oil and gas sector.
The 12th CGD Bidding Round aims to extend the reach of natural gas by offering 8 Geographical Areas covering six North East states and UTs of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The successful completion of this bidding round will result in almost the entire country (excluding Islands) being covered under the CGD network, representing a landmark achievement for PNGRB.
Pankaj Jain commended the impressive strides made by PNGRB through the CGD initiatives in the last 11 rounds. He emphasized the potential of PNG in the targeted states and encouraged the use of emerging technologies to introduce gases, recognizing the significant room for innovation in enhancing gas infrastructure and accessibility.
Dr. Anil Kumar Jain, the Chairperson of PNGRB, articulated the board's current focus on creating a vibrant and sustainable gas infrastructure across the country. The tailored bidding round for these States/UT reflects a strategic move to provide cleaner fuel within the delicate ecosystems of these regions. He also highlighted the potential of northeastern India, considering it a crucial link between mainland India and Southeast Asia, with considerable potential for CNG.
The PNGRB has invited electronic bids starting from October 13, 2023, with the last date for submission set for January 11, 2024, for 7 GAs under the 12th CGD Bidding Round and February 23, 2024, for Mizoram GA. The board aims to finalize the awards by February/March 2024, marking a significant leap towards achieving comprehensive coverage of the CGD network across the nation.
