Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed the commencement of 'core loading' of India's first entirely indigenous fast breeder reactor at Kalpakkam.

The PM emphasized the importance of the breeder reactor, highlighting its unique ability to produce more fuel than it consumes. This technology not only enhances India's energy security but also holds the key to unlocking the nation's vast thorium reserves.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi stated, "Earlier today, witnessed the commencement of 'core loading' of India's first and totally indigenous fast breeder reactor at Kalpakkam, which produces more fuel than is consumed. This will pave the way for eventual utilization of India’s vast thorium reserves and thus obviate the need for nuclear fuel import."

The utilization of thorium reserves is of strategic importance for India, as it reduces reliance on nuclear fuel imports and strengthens the nation's energy self-reliance. Furthermore, this technological advancement aligns with India's commitment to achieving its net-zero emissions goal, contributing to sustainable development and environmental conservation efforts.

The successful development and operation of India's indigenous fast breeder reactor underscore the country's scientific and technological prowess. It represents a significant leap forward in India's journey towards achieving energy security, self-reliance, and sustainable development.
