Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the foundation stone laying ceremony of a 300 MW Solar Power Plant located at Karnisar-Bhatiyan village, in Poogal Tehsil, Bikaner, Rajasthan. The ceremony, conducted via video conferencing mode, marked a crucial step towards bolstering the nation's renewable energy infrastructure.

The project, being set up by NHPC Limited under the Government of India’s CPSU Scheme, Phase-II, Tranche-III, boasts a total investment of over INR 1,732 crores. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, including high-efficiency bifacial modules manufactured in India, the solar project aligns with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative, emphasizing self-reliance in the renewable energy sector.

The electricity generated by the project will be transmitted through the Bikaner-II Inter-State Transmission System Substation. With a target of producing around 750 million units of green power annually, the project aims to offset carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 18,000 million Metric tons over its lifetime, contributing significantly to environmental sustainability.

The Power Usage Agreement for the project has been inked with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) at a competitive tariff of INR 2.45/unit for 25 years, with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of INR 134.70 crores offered by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India. Scheduled for commissioning by September 2024, the project holds the potential to create employment opportunities for approximately 600 individuals indirectly during the project phase and 100 personnel during the Operations and Maintenance phase.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma; Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy R.K. Singh; Union Minister for Law & Justice and Member of Parliament from Bikaner Arjun Ram Meghwal. Deputy Chief Minister, Rajasthan, Diya Kumari; Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar, and Deputy Chief Minister, Rajasthan Prem Chand Bairwa also graced the occasion.

NHPC Limited, India's leading hydropower company, is spearheading the project. With a total installed capacity of 7097.2 MW of Renewable Energy (including wind and solar) through its 25 power stations, including 1520 MW through subsidiaries, NHPC remains at the forefront of India's renewable energy initiatives. Currently engaged in the construction of 15 projects with an aggregate installed capacity of 10,449 MW, NHPC continues to play a pivotal role in India's journey towards sustainable energy solutions.
