Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the foundation stone laying ceremony of NLC India Limited's 300 MW Solar Power Project in Barsingsar, Rajasthan. The ceremony, conducted via video conference mode, witnessed the presence of various dignitaries including Bhajan Lal Sharma, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, and Gopal Verma, MLA.

The project, awarded under MNRE’s CPSU Scheme and boasting a total estimated cost of INR 1,756 crore, is slated for completion by September 2024. Positioned strategically near the existing Barsingsar Thermal Power Station, the project aims to leverage common infrastructure facilities and expedite power evacuation through the existing network.

Speaking on the occasion via video conference, PM Modi said, “India has started moving at a fast pace in generating solar power, and in giving an impetus to this mission, today, the foundation stone has been laid for various solar power projects in Rajasthan. The projects will not only provide green and cheap power to the region but also provide great employment opportunities to the youth.”

Key highlights of the project include a Power Usage Agreement signed with Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited for the entire capacity of 300 MW at a tariff of INR 2.52/unit, ensuring a reliable and cost-effective power supply. Additionally, the project aligns with PM Modi’s ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ initiative by employing indigenous domestic solar modules of high-efficiency bifacial type.

Over its projected lifespan of 25 years, the project is estimated to generate approximately 18.75 BU of green energy and reduce approximately 18 Million Metric Tons of carbon dioxide emissions, contributing significantly to environmental sustainability. Furthermore, it is expected to create employment opportunities for nearly 600 personnel during the construction phase and over 100 persons during the operation and maintenance phase, thereby fostering economic growth and skill development in the region.

The project has been awarded to M/s TATA Power Solar Systems Ltd. on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis through a competitive bidding process, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Leveraging the latest state-of-the-art technology, the project utilizes high-efficiency Bifacial modules from domestic suppliers, furthering India's progress towards sustainable energy solutions.

The green power generated by this project will aid the State of Rajasthan in meeting its Renewable Purchase Obligation and propel India towards its Net Zero status, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. The commencement of construction activities marks a significant milestone made possible by the vision of PM Modi and the unwavering support from various ministries and stakeholders.
