Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 78th Independence Day address, reaffirmed India's commitment to a greener future, emphasising the nation's ambitious goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil-based energy capacity by 2030. "This is an ambitious goal, and the world is watching us with amazement. We will accomplish this, ensuring a brighter future for our children," Modi declared, reiterating India's pledge to reach net-zero emissions by 2070.

Addressing the nation from the historic Red Fort, Prime Minister highlighted the crucial role of green jobs in India's fight against climate change. He emphasised that the nation's focus is now on green growth and the creation of green jobs, which will not only provide employment opportunities but also contribute significantly to environmental protection. Modi reiterated India's commitment to becoming a global leader in green hydrogen production, with a strong emphasis on creating sustainable jobs in environmental conservation and the renewable energy sectors, aligning economic progress with ecological stewardship.

Modi announced plans to make it mandatory for refineries and fertilizer plants to procure a certain percentage of their hydrogen from green sources, advancing India's green energy agenda and strengthening its leadership on the global stage.

Further, industry leaders expressed hope and enthusiasm in repsonse to Prime Minister Modi’s Independence Day Speech as  Dr. Hitesh Doshi, Chairman and Managing Director of Waaree Group, noted, “India is working towards becoming self-reliant for its energy needs while tackling global climate challenges. As the only G20 nation to exceed its climate commitments, India is leading the way with an ambitious goal of 500 GW of clean energy by 2030.”

Doshi also emphasised Waaree Group's alignment with this vision, stating, “Our focus on advancing renewable energy solutions and establishing India as a global hub for Green Hydrogen supports the nation’s goals. Let us foster a future where progress, unity, and sustainability ensure a prosperous and resilient India for generations to come.”
