In a recent address at the Energy Transition Dialogues hosted by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) in New Delhi, India's Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, emphasised the crucial need for a comprehensive shift from coal and conventional energy sources to green energy.
Goyal highlighted the challenges associated with renewable energy sources like wind and solar due to their intermittent availability throughout the day.
He proposed that the vision of an international power grid, as advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, could be the solution to this dilemma.
Goyal underscored India's ambitious targets for energy transition and its initiatives, including support for clean energy equipment production, green hydrogen, and the production-linked incentive (PLI) program to boost manufacturing.
He also addressed the carbon tax issue and emphasised the responsibility of developed nations in addressing global environmental challenges, given India's relatively low greenhouse gas emissions.
