Paytm (One97 Communications Ltd.), India’s digital payments and financial services provider, has introduced the Paytm Solar Soundbox, the country’s first solar-powered payment alert device for merchants.

The innovative solution ensures seamless transactions by harnessing solar energy, making it a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative for small businesses, particularly in rural and remote areas.

Designed to function even in minimal sunlight, the 'Made in India Solar Soundbox' features dual charging capabilities, with one battery powered by solar energy and another by electricity. A 2-3 hour charge under sunlight provides full-day power, while the electricity-charged battery lasts up to 10 days without recharging. Equipped with a high-quality 3-watt speaker, the device delivers real-time audio confirmations in 11 languages, enabling merchants to efficiently manage payments even in noisy environments.

The device integrates Paytm’s QR code technology, allowing customers to make UPI and RuPay Credit Card on UPI payments effortlessly. Aimed at hawkers, street vendors, artisans, and small shop owners, the 4G-connected Solar Soundbox extends Paytm’s commitment to financial inclusion and sustainability.

Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder and CEO of Paytm, said, “We are committed to empowering India’s small merchants with technology that makes mobile payments seamless and accessible. The Paytm Solar Soundbox is a testament to our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and financial inclusion.”

Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, lauded the initiative, stating, “India’s millions of small merchants are at the center of economic growth. The launch of this affordable Solar Soundbox is a commendable step towards empowering small businesses, especially those in remote areas, while also advancing the vision of a self-reliant and environmentally conscious India.”

The launch follows Paytm’s recent rollout of the NFC Card Soundbox, India’s first device combining NFC technology with QR-based mobile payments, providing offline merchants with a versatile card payment solution.

As Paytm continues to expand its ecosystem, innovations like UPI Lite for micro-transactions, RuPay Credit Card linking on UPI, and auto-pay services further enhance digital payment accessibility across India.
