The letter from lawmakers  around the world published, is a strong sign of solidarity with his proposal for managed reduction of dependence on fossil fuels.

The signatories thank President Petro for his climate leadership and call him an example to be followed worldwide in providing the appropriate policy response to the climate crisis.

Charles Santiago , Member of Parliament for Malaysia, one of the signatories of the letter and the originator of the Parliamentarians' Appeal for a Future Free of Fossil Fuels, said:  " Gustavo Petro 's proposalsand Francia Márquez show courage, but also common sense. Oil, gas and coal production needs to end anyway because it is the main cause of the climate crisis, environmental disasters and wars around the world, but also because reserves are running out. Petro is not just saying that oil and coal have to be left in the ground. This is not a unilateral decision; it is about responding adequately to a global climate and economic crisis. As representatives of millions of people and as a network of parliamentarians committed to working for a future free of fossil fuels, we are ready to support the new Colombian government."

Florencia Lampreabe, Member of Parliament of Argentina , said: " Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez 's call for a just energy transition at the global level is central. As representatives of our people, we must take urgent action in the face of the climate crisis we are all experiencing. We therefore declare our support for the new Colombian government and congress as they begin an auspicious chapter for Colombia, Latin America and the world. "
