In a significant move towards sustainable energy, Oil India Limited (OIL) has released a request for proposals to establish a 1 MW green hydrogen project in Himachal Pradesh. The project is slated to have a generation capacity of 17 kg per hour, contributing to the nation's growing emphasis on renewable energy sources.

According to the tender guidelines, potential bidders are required to submit proposals along with an INR 13.5 million earnest money deposit (EMD). The selected developer must provide a performance bank guarantee equivalent to 10 percent of the contract value. The deadline for bid submissions is set for January 15, 2024.

The proposed unit is expected to operate for a minimum of 8,000 hours annually at full capacity. Eligible bidders include manufacturers or channel partners specializing in water electrolyzer technologies, such as anion exchange membrane, proton exchange membrane, alkaline membrane solid electrolyzer, or solid oxide electrolyzer.

Additionally, bidders must demonstrate a track record of supplying at least one unit of electrolyzer using water electrolysis technology in India within the past ten years, with these units operational for a minimum of three months before the bid closing date.

Prospective bidders are also required to have a joint undertaking agreement with either an Indian or international manufacturer or channel partner, meeting the technical criteria for supplying electrolyzers. To qualify for the tender, bidders must be registered in India and ensure a local content of at least 20 percent for the services offered.

This initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September 2023 between OIL and NTPC Limited, focusing on collaborative efforts in green hydrogen, renewable energy, geothermal, and decarbonization initiatives.
