Ohmium International, a prominent player in green hydrogen technology, has launched its latest gigafactory in Doddaballapura, near Bengaluru. This cutting-edge facility, covering nearly 14,000 square meters, is designed to produce 2 GW of advanced Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, with plans to expand capacity to 4 GW.

The new plant aims to address the rising global demand for green hydrogen. Arne Ballantine, CEO of Ohmium, highlighted the significance of the new facility: “The inauguration of our gigafactory is a pivotal moment for Ohmium. It allows us to meet the increasing demand for green hydrogen from customers worldwide. Our 2 GW production capacity can reduce CO2 emissions by four million tons annually, equivalent to the carbon capture of 180 million trees.”

This gigafactory is Ohmium’s second manufacturing site in India, and the first to consolidate key functions such as manufacturing, assembly, quality assurance, testing, warehousing, and shipping under one roof.

Ashwin Varma, COO of Ohmium, noted, “Our hyper modular PEM electrolyzers are engineered for mass production and easy assembly. By adopting high standards of efficient manufacturing, we ensure top-notch performance at competitive costs. This standardised approach allows us to quickly scale production and achieve further cost reductions as demand grows.”

The establishment of the gigafactory marks a significant USD investment in local infrastructure, equipment, and workforce. It underscores Ohmium’s leadership in PEM electrolyzer technology in India, highlighted by its landmark 400-megawatt deal with NTPC in 2023, its partnership with Tata Projects in 2024, and its selection for the Ministry of Renewable Energy’s Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Incentives. Ohmium’s ongoing research collaborations with India’s CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CSIR-CECRI) and IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP) are accelerating the development and deployment of innovative green hydrogen solutions to meet global demand.
