The Higher Education department has planned to set-up solar power systems on the campuses of 48 government degree colleges and 16 teacher education institutes under its governance in accordance with Odisha Renewable Energy Policy 2022.

This step will minimize the institutions’ electricity bills and assist student in studies.

The state government officials stated that there is a large requirement for the evolution of rooftop or surface-mounted solar plants in their buildings for producing the institutions self-sustaining for power generation, diminishing the cost of energy utilisation and establishing green campuses.

GEDCOL will be the exclusive implementing agency for the establishment of solar rooftop power systems in the institutions.

Fundamentally, a detailed project report will get ready by the GEDCOL for this project.

The state government has allocated GEDCOL, a subordinate of state-owned Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), plan to work for setting-up of solar rooftop power systems in total 64 colleges and educational institutions.

The main aim for production and composition of GEDCOL is to explore the energy resources in Odisha for the purpose of tapping renewable sources in the long run. The company is presently situated at Bhubaneswar.
