NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, has achieved a significant milestone in its renewable energy journey by announcing the commencement of commercial operations for its maiden project.
The debut project, a 50 MW wind farm located in Dayapar, Kutch, Gujarat, officially began its commercial operations on November 4, 2023. This marks a pioneering achievement in India's renewable energy landscape.
The Dayapar Wind project holds a special distinction as the first capacity in India to be declared commercial under the new Indian Electricity Grid Code and General Network Access Regime.
NTPC REL has more ambitious plans for expanding its renewable energy portfolio. Currently, the company is actively pursuing 15 other renewable energy projects at various stages of execution, boasting a combined capacity of 6,210 MW. These projects promise to significantly bolster the renewable energy capacity of the NTPC Group.
Furthermore, NTPC REL's wind portfolio is set to receive a substantial boost with the introduction of the Dayapar Wind Complex. Once fully commissioned, this complex will contribute an additional 450 MW to NTPC's existing wind capacity of 100 MW, strengthening the company's presence in the wind energy sector.
However, NTPC REL is not limiting its efforts to wind and solar energy. The company is venturing into green hydrogen technologies, recognizing the growing importance of hydrogen as a clean energy source. Using the microgrid principle, NTPC REL is establishing a substantial green hydrogen capacity in Ladakh, further contributing to India's sustainable energy future.
Notably, NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL), another wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, has been actively contributing to NTPC Group's renewable energy capacity. NGEL is currently working on two noteworthy projects: a 40 MW solar project in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, and a Hydrogen Hub at Pudimadaka in Andhra Pradesh.
NTPC REL, incorporated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC in October 2020, has a clear mission to accelerate the addition of renewable energy capacity within the NTPC Group. As part of its long-term growth plan, NTPC aims to achieve a remarkable 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.
