NTPC Limited, India's integrated power utility, has achieved a milestone through its coal-mining subsidiary, NTPC Mining Ltd. (NML), by surpassing the production of 100 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) of coal.
This milestone signifies a significant achievement for NML, as the cumulative coal production since the commencement of operations in its first coal mine Pakri Barwadih on January 1, 2017, has now reached 100.04 MMT.
Notably, the first 50 MMT of coal production was achieved in 1,995 days by June 19, 2022, while the subsequent 50 MMT was produced in just 617 days, showcasing exceptional efficiency and accelerated progress.
This performance underscores NTPC Mining's commitment to enhancing coal production from its captive mines, thereby bolstering NTPC's fuel security and ensuring a reliable supply to meet the nation's energy demands.
Currently, NTPC Mining Ltd. operates five captive coal mines across Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh, namely Pakri Barwadih, Chatti Bariatu, Kerandari, Dulanga, and Talaipalli Coal Mines.
To sustain and further augment coal production, NTPC has implemented a comprehensive array of strategies and technologies. These include the adoption of stringent safety protocols, enhanced mine planning, automation of equipment, workforce training initiatives, and the implementation of advanced monitoring and analysis systems. With an eye towards the future, NML aims to achieve a coal production target of 100 MMT per annum by the year 2030.
