NTPC Limited has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for electric bus operators to lease and operate five fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs) on the Delhi-Agra intercity route.
The leasing period is initially set at three years, with the possibility of extension under mutually agreed terms and conditions.
NTPC intends to deploy FCEBs on the Delhi-Agra intercity route or any other route identified by the operator as feasible, with at least two buses on the Delhi-Agra intercity route. Notably, NTPC will provide hydrogen fuel for FCEBs free of cost for up to 200,000 kilometers per bus per annum.
The deadline for bid submission is November 20, 2023, with the bid opening scheduled for November 21, 2023.
NTPC is actively exploring the potential of hydrogen as a green alternative to diesel buses and is considering the establishment of an in-house hydrogen filling station on its premises as a pilot project. This initiative aims to evaluate the technical and commercial feasibility of fuel-cell-based technology for public transport.
The NTPC Green Hydrogen Mobility Project encompasses the design and development of FCEBs tailored to Indian conditions, the creation of a green hydrogen generation and refueling station, and the operation of FCEBs on intercity routes for a three-year period.
The project aligns with the global trend toward hydrogen-powered modes of transport, presenting a sustainable and innovative solution for India's public transportation needs.
