NTPC and NGEL Sign MoUs with RVUNL to Expand Power Capacity and RE Projects in Rajasthan

The MoU between NTPC and RVUNL focuses on exploring opportunities to augment the existing Chhabra Thermal Power Plant with supercritical units.

NTPC and its renewable energy arm, NGEL, have inked non-binding Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) to boost power infrastructure and promote renewable energy in Rajasthan.

MoU between NTPC and RVUNL
The MoU between NTPC and RVUNL focuses on exploring opportunities to augment the existing Chhabra Thermal Power Plant with supercritical units. Additionally, the parties aim to enhance efficiency and reduce the power generation costs of the plant's existing units. 

The agreement also encompasses a 15 to 20-year annuity-based Renovation and Modernization (R&M) of old thermal units of RVUNL by NTPC or its affiliates. The signing ceremony saw the participation of the Executive Director, BD, IBD & Consultancy, NTPC, R. Sarangapani, and Chairman and Managing Director, RVUNL, Devender Shringi.

MoU between NGEL and RVUNL
NGEL's MoU with RVUNL focuses on developing renewable energy projects with a capacity of up to 25 GW and green hydrogen derivatives with a capacity of up to 1 million tons, both in Rajasthan. Chief Executive Officer, NGEL, Rajiv Gupta, and Chairman and Managing Director, RVUNL, Devender Shringi, signed the agreement.

The signing ceremony, held at the Chief Minister’s Office in Jaipur, witnessed the presence of the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, along with Union Ministers for Power and New and Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh, and for Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi, who attended the event virtually. Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Diya Kumari; Minister of State for the Energy Department, Government of Rajasthan, Heeralal Nagar; Union Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena; and Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, Sudhansh Panth, also graced the occasion.

Representing NTPC Ltd., Chairman and Managing Director, Gurdeep Singh, along with Director (HR), D.K. Patel, Independent Director Vivek Gupta, and other senior officials were present, underscoring NTPC's commitment to expanding its non-fossil-based capacity.

NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated power utility, currently boasts over 75 GW of installed capacity, contributing a quarter of India's total electricity demand.
