The Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh in a written reply to a question, in Lok Sabha informed about the 'National Framework for Promoting Energy Storage Systems' for a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
Unveiled in August 2023, this framework is designed to create a conducive environment for the development of Energy Storage Systems (ESS), contributing to the nation's energy transition.
The primary goal is to guarantee affordable and clean electricity for everyone by addressing the challenges posed by intermittent renewable sources like solar and wind. As part of India's commitment to achieving 50 percent of cumulative installed electric power capacity from non-fossil fuel-based resources by 2030, the framework acknowledges the pivotal role of ESS.
By storing energy generated from renewable sources during peak times, ESS will play a crucial role in making renewable energy dispatchable and available round-the-clock.
This initiative is set to enhance grid stability, facilitate energy and peak shifting, and promote greater integration of renewable energy sources, fostering a sustainable and reliable power ecosystem for the nation.
