The Naveen Jindal Group has announced its entry into the nuclear energy sector with the establishment of Jindal Nuclear Power Pvt. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jindal Renewables. The company plans to build 18 GW of nuclear power capacity over the next two decades, with an investment of approximately INR 1.80 lakh crore.
Jindal Nuclear will build, own, and operate nuclear power plants, utilising Bharat Small Reactors (BSRs), Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), and Gen-IV Reactors to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
This initiative aligns with the Government of India's Union Budget 2025 target of 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, supporting low-emission industrialisation and reducing the country’s CO2 footprint.
Jindal Nuclear is the first private sector company to announce investments in nuclear power following the government's decision to open the sector to private players.
“The Indian government's vision to set up 100 GW of nuclear energy by 2047 is exciting and visionary. At Jindal Nuclear, we are very bullish on nuclear energy and believe the private sector must play its role to realise this vision. Our 18 GW nuclear development plan reflects our commitment to supporting India's CO2-free energy vision,” said S.K. Sharma, Senior Advisor at Jindal Nuclear and former Chairman of NPCIL.
As per a company statement, the 18 GW nuclear energy program will be developed in phases over the next 20 years, incorporating advanced technologies as they become commercially viable.
Jindal Nuclear also plans to collaborate with global technology partners to maintain high safety standards and operational efficiency. The project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities across construction, operations, and related sectors.
Jindal Nuclear, as part of Jindal Renewables, is focused on expanding its presence in the clean energy sector and contributing to India’s energy transition and sustainability goals.
