Nagpur is emerging as a solar manufacturing hub. The region has attracted significant investments in solar PV module and cell manufacturing besides lithium battery and cell manufacturing projects. This has further gathered space with the Maharashtra Government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis signing multiple MoUs at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
Waaree Energies was reportedly seeking 500 acres of land in Nagpur to set up a solar cell and panel manufacturing unit. Representatives from the company recently assessed locations in the Additional Butibori industrial estate. The company has signed an INR 30,000 crore MoU with the Maharashtra Government at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
Avaada Group is setting up a new manufacturing facility at the Additional Butibori Industrial Park in Nagpur, Maharashtra with an investment of about INR 13,650 crore. It will house a vertically integrated solar manufacturing unit with production from ingot-wafer to PV cells and modules. It will also manufacture next-generation batteries and electrolysers.
In the initial phase, Avaada plans to establish a wafer-to-module project with a capacity of 5 GW for solar cells and 3 GW for modules. These high-efficiency cells, utilising advanced TOPCon technology, will support the company’s existing module manufacturing facility in Dadri.
Amravati-based solar panel manufacturer ECE India Energies Pvt. Ltd. is in the process of raising about INR 3,000 crore to support the company’s manufacturing expansion plans in central India. “We are coming up with a 5 GW manufacturing unit,” said Amit Arokar, MD and Founder, ECE India Group to Energetica India.
At WEF Davos, JSW Group signed an MoU worth INR 3 lakh crore with the Maharashtra government. This deal is expected to generate employment of 10,000 in the regions of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Gadchiroli, and Nagpur.
"The areas of this investment like renewable energy, infrastructure, cement, lithium-ion batteries, and solar modules will play a huge role in our mission 'Green Maharashtra',” said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
MSN Holdings Ltd. plans to establish an advanced lithium battery and cell manufacturing project under the state’s ‘Ultra Mega Project’ initiative in the Nagpur region. It has signed an INR 14,652 crore MoU with the state government.
HyZero Inc. will set up two units in Maharashtra in the green energy segment. One of the units is expected to be set up in the Nagpur region. The company has signed an MoU worth INR 16,000 crore.
Nagpur’s strategic location and the rising global demand for non-Chinese renewable energy products make it an attractive destination for investments.
