Nagaland Launches Solar Mission to Promote Rooftop Solar Adoption
Nagaland launched its Solar Mission to boost rooftop solar adoption, offering up to 96 percent subsidy. Chief Minister Rio allocated INR 10 crore, aligning with PM Surya Ghar Yojana for green energy goals.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the Nagaland Solar Mission today, designed to rapidly increase the use of residential rooftop solar power systems throughout the state.
This initiative complements the national PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, aiming to provide households with more accessible and cost-effective clean energy.
The launch ceremony took place at the Chief Minister’s Office in Kohima, with key officials including Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton, Power Minister K G Kenye, and Chief Secretary J. Alam in attendance. Chief Minister Rio announced via social media that the state government will augment the central government's subsidies with additional state-level financial support.
Specifically, residents will receive up to 96 percent subsidy for solar systems up to 2 KW and 85 percent for systems up to 3 KW, drastically reducing the cost of solar installation. He also stated that INR 10 crore has been allocated for the mission in the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Rio emphasized that this initiative represents a significant stride towards promoting green energy, lowering electricity expenses, and supporting environmental preservation. He highlighted the state government’s dedication to fostering a sustainable and energy-efficient future.
