The Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh, chaired a crucial meeting on the Green Hydrogen R&D Scheme in New Delhi.

The meeting, attended by key stakeholders from government bodies, academia, and industry representatives, aimed to chart a course for research and development efforts in the realm of green hydrogen.

During the meeting, Minister Singh stressed the importance of focused research efforts to identify primary areas of research and provide necessary support to research institutions. He emphasized the need for collaboration among institutions with diverse expertise to work on identified priority areas, underscoring the significance of increased efficiency of electrolyzers to reduce the cost of green hydrogen.

Furthermore, Minister Singh highlighted ongoing initiatives in the industry, including modifications to internal combustion engines for hydrogen derivatives and the potential of sea-water electrolysis in reducing production costs and enhancing scalability.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy presented over 40 problem statements categorized under production, storage and transport, applications, and safety, cross-cutting analysis and integration. These problem statements serve as a roadmap for the first round of R&D projects under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The R&D projects under the mission encompass Mission Mode projects with a horizon of 0 to 5 years, Grand Challenge projects spanning 0 to 8 years, and Blue Sky projects with a horizon of 0 to 15 years. Additionally, centers of excellence will be identified and supported under the mission, with an initial focus on Mission Mode projects.
