The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, part of the Government of India, has announced an extension for the submission of Research and Development (R&D) proposals under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
This move comes following the issuance of guidelines for the implementation of the R&D Scheme, aimed at advancing green hydrogen technologies.
The R&D scheme, outlined by the ministry, targets the enhancement of the entire green hydrogen value chain, including production, storage, transportation, and utilization. It seeks to render these processes more cost-effective, efficient, safe, and reliable. Moreover, the scheme intends to foster collaboration among industry, academia, and government to cultivate an innovation ecosystem for green hydrogen technologies.
With a total budgetary outlay of INR 400 crores allocated until the financial year 2025-26, the R&D Scheme is poised to drive the scaling up and commercialization of green hydrogen technologies, complemented by policy and regulatory support as delineated in the scheme guidelines issued on March 15, 2024.
The initiative embraces diverse stakeholders, including industrial and institutional entities, as well as innovative micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and startups focusing on indigenous technology development. All supported R&D projects will be goal-oriented, time-bound, and primed for scalability.
Following the issuance of the guidelines, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy invited proposals on March 16, 2024. While the response to the Call for Proposals has been promising, some stakeholders have requested an extension to the submission deadline. In response to these requests and to ensure the submission of high-quality proposals, the ministry has extended the deadline to April 27, 2024.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched on January 4, 2023, with a substantial outlay of INR 19,744 crores allocated until the financial year 2029-30, highlights the government's commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions in India.
