MNRE Extends Deadline for Compliance with Quality Control Order for Solar Inverters

The new deadline is set for December 31, 2024, or until further orders.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced a crucial extension for solar inverter manufacturers to align with the Quality Control Order (QCO) 2017 standards.

The new deadline is set for December 31, 2024, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier, extending the previous deadline of December 31, 2023, by a year.

This extension has been granted to provide solar inverter manufacturers with additional time to meet the stringent Indian Standards (IS) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards for solar photovoltaic systems, devices, and component goods.

The focus is specifically on solar inverters with a capacity exceeding 100 kW, which are mandated to possess valid IEC certificates corresponding to the specified IS/IEC standards.

These standards include IS 16221 (Part 2):2015/IEC 62109-2:2011 for item No. 4 and IS 16169:2014/IEC 62116:2008 for item No. 5. Additionally, manufacturers must provide test reports from accredited test labs to ensure the smooth implementation of the order.

This extension aims to facilitate a seamless transition for manufacturers while upholding the quality standards outlined in the original order. The government's decision reflects a balanced approach, considering the practical challenges faced by industry players and the necessity to maintain high-quality standards in the solar photovoltaic sector.
