Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Hosts Event to Empower Women in Green Jobs
The event aimed to address policy gaps for inclusive green employment, focusing on skill development and capacity building, and sharing insights and recommendations from women leaders in the renewable energy sector.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy organized an event titled ‘Women in Renewable Energy: Inspiring Gender Inclusion through Skill Development and Targeted Policies for Green Jobs’ in New Delhi.
Held with the support of NRDC India, the event aimed to address policy gaps for inclusive green employment, focusing on skill development and capacity building, and sharing insights and recommendations from women leaders in the renewable energy sector.
Union Minister for Power and Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh, delivered a video message highlighting India’s strides in clean energy transition. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to designing women-centric policies and initiatives to enhance women's livelihoods, improve health, and bolster community resilience.
Speaking at the event, New and Renewable Energy Secretary, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, reiterated the government’s pledge to raise India’s non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030. He emphasized the crucial role of every citizen in contributing to the energy transition. Secretary Bhalla mentioned the recently launched PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and the overwhelming response from the public on the National Portal for participation in the scheme. He stressed the need for a skilled workforce at various levels to effectively implement government programs and schemes and achieve targeted capacities, creating opportunities for women to play a larger role in the renewable energy sector.
The Secretary also highlighted the importance of gender-specific employment data and the ongoing primary survey conducted by the Ministry, in collaboration with NRDC and CEEW, on job opportunities and women's representation in the renewable energy workforce.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Sudeep Jain, emphasized women's roles as societal pillars offering diverse problem-solving perspectives. He emphasized the significance of women not only as a large workforce but also as a robust decision-making force in the renewable energy sector.
The event witnessed participation from stakeholders across the renewable energy value chain, including Central and State Government officials, representatives of multilateral organizations, financiers, technology suppliers, think tanks, NGOs, and civil society. It served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration towards empowering women in green jobs and fostering gender inclusion in the renewable energy sector.
