Addressing the 1st India Solar Manufacturing Summit, Union Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy, Bhagwanth Khauba, emphasized the importance of reasonable pricing for solar panels. He called on the industry to refrain from exploiting basic customs duty benefits and maintain competitive prices for domestic developers.
During the inaugural session, Minister Khauba highlighted the positive impact of schemes like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for High Efficiency Solar Panel manufacturing, which boasts a budget outlay of INR 24,000 crores. He expressed optimism that such initiatives would boost indigenous production of solar panels.
The Government of India thinks in a holistic manner, so as to ensure sustainability and a win-win situation for all, said the Minister. “The government is in continuous consultation with all stakeholders, taking inputs and listening to advice from everyone and then striving to ensure justice to everyone,” he said.
As part of the event, Minister Khauba launched a report on PV Supply Chain Resilience & Sustainability – India-EU Cooperation Study, underlining the collaborative efforts between India and the European Union in promoting sustainability in the solar sector.
In his keynote address, Khauba highlighted India's significant strides in solar manufacturing, aligning with global goals such as Net Zero by 2070. He reiterated the mantra of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and underscored the positive international reception of India's initiatives, including praise from leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Every sector needs to bring in self-reliance; government policies are being implemented in this direction, to promote investment opportunities in every sector.” said Minister Khauba, assuring investors of a stable government and policy certainty in the years ahead.
