Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has received bids from seven bidders under global tender for the re-bidding of Production Linked Incentives (PLI) for 10 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) manufacturing.

The pre-bid meeting, held on February 12, 2024, set the stage for potential applicants to gain insights into the requirements and expectations of the tender process. Subsequently, the deadline for receiving applications was set for April 22, 2024, through the CPP portal.

On April 23, 2024, the technical bids were opened, revealing a diverse lineup of contenders vying for a stake in this opportunity. The seven bidders include ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Private Limited, Anvi Power Industries Private Limited, JSW Neo Energy Limited, Reliance Industries Limited, Lucas TVS Limited, and Waaree Energies Limited. Together, these companies have proposed a cumulative manufacturing capacity of 70 GWh.

This latest development builds upon the momentum set by the Cabinet's approval in May 2021 of the technology-agnostic PLI Scheme, specifically targeting the National Programme on ACC Battery Storage. To achieve a manufacturing capacity of 50 GWh, backed by an outlay of INR 18,100 Crore, the scheme aims to position India as a global leader in ACC production.

The initial round of bidding, concluded in March 2022, saw three beneficiary firms allocated a total capacity of 30 GWh, with program agreements signed by July 2022. Now, with the re-bidding process underway, MHI, along with the Government of India, continues its commitment to fostering innovation and investment in the renewable energy sector.

Further, MHI had released Request for Proposal (RfP) on January 24, 2024, for the shortlisting and selection of bidders under the PLI Scheme 'National Programme on ACC Battery Storage’ for setting up of ACC Manufacturing Units with a total manufacturing capacity of 10 GWh with a maximum budgetary outlay of INR 3,620 crore.
