Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and EDF, has commenced construction on Sharjah's largest solar PV plant in partnership with Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC). The project is located at SNOC's Sajaa Gas Complex, the 60 MW solar installation marks a significant milestone in the emirate's renewable energy landscape.
Under the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model, Emerge will oversee the entire project lifecycle, including financing, design, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance for 25 years. It is expected that upon completion, the plant will offset 66,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to removing over 14,600 cars from the road each year.
SNOC aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2032, making this project a key component of its sustainability strategy. The initiative not only reduces the corporation's reliance on traditional fossil fuels but also promotes the UAE's ambitious Net-Zero 2050 goals.
Hatem Al Mosa, CEO of SNOC, emphasized on the project's importance in supporting their sustainability agenda and enhancing environmental protection efforts. Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge, expressed pride in contributing to Sharjah's renewable energy goals and highlighted the project's role in securing a cost-effective and sustainable energy future for the emirate.
This collaboration highlights a significant step towards a greener future for Sharjah and the UAE, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change through renewable energy adoption.
