Maharashtra Government has recently signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for renewable energy projects worth a collective INR 47,000 crore.
These agreements were signed between Mahagenco Renewable Energy Ltd. (MREL) with REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd. (RECPDCL), THDC India Ltd. (THDCIL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), SJVN and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL), at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai.
The projects align with Maharashtra's target of generating 50 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, and Energy and Irrigation Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was present at the MoU signing ceremony, affirmed the state's commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure timely project completion.
RECPDCL and the Maharashtra government will collaborate to leverage their respective strengths in infrastructure development and engineering for renewable energy projects. A 500 MW hybrid renewable energy project will be the first venture, requiring an investment of INR 3,000.
As part of the MoU between the state and THDCIL, Maharashtra will see the development of renewable energy projects with a capacity of 4,250 MW, demanding an investment of INR 29,329 crore.
Meanwhile, HPRGE-HPCL plans to develop a 50 KTPA (kilo-tonnes per annum) green hydrogen and derivatives plant at MahaGenco’s gas-based power facility in Uran, Raigad district with an approximate investment of INR 12,000 crore.
Another key development comes from SJVN, which is exploring a joint venture with MahaGenco to establish a floating solar power plant on the Lower Wardha Dam. The pre-feasibility study, including a bathymetric survey, has identified a 732-hectare site for a 505 MW plant. This INR 3,030 crore project will be executed in two phases – 100 MW in Phase-I and 405 MW in Phase-II.
