Mahanagar Gas Ltd. (MGL), one of India’s leading City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies, has launched the second edition of its widely acclaimed ‘MGL CNG Mahotsav.’
As per the firm's statement, this scheme, which commenced on October 1, 2024, aims to encourage the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for commercial vehicles across Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts. MGL’s initiative is aligned with promoting the use of CNG, a cleaner and environmentally friendly fuel, to reduce emissions and support sustainability. The scheme includes partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to promote new CNG vehicles and collaborations with CNG kit distributors to ensure quality retrofitting of existing commercial vehicles.
As part of the CNG Mahotsav, MGL offers substantial incentives, with fuel cards worth up to INR 4.5 lakhs, depending on the type and size of the vehicle. These incentives aim to ease the financial burden for commercial vehicle owners switching to CNG. For instance, commercial vehicles weighing over 15 tons are eligible for the maximum incentive of INR 4.5 lakhs, while lighter vehicles and buses are entitled to smaller but still significant amounts. These fuel cards can be used at MGL’s extensive network of CNG filling stations, including select BEST bus depots. To make the refueling process more convenient, vehicle owners can also pre-book their slots through MGL’s “Tez” app.
MGL’s Managing Director, Ashu Shinghal, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch of the second edition of the ‘CNG Mahotsav.’ He highlighted the dual benefits of this initiative—promoting sustainability while offering significant cost savings to vehicle owners. By encouraging the transition to CNG, MGL hopes to positively impact urban transportation and contribute to India’s broader environmental goals.
"With over 29 years of experience, MGL has been a pioneer in supplying natural gas in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. It continues to play a vital role in promoting cleaner fuels and supporting India’s move towards reducing reliance on fossil fuels. MGL serves over 10 lakh vehicles, including rickshaws, taxis, buses, and commercial trucks, through its extensive distribution network of pipelines and CNG filling stations," said the firm in its statement.
